India has draconian laws enacted in recent days and they give the government agencies extra-ordinary powere which would be declared unconstitutional in all moders civilised countries save and except for the dictatorships.
A sitting Chief Minister is held in the Tihar Jail since about two weeks ostensibly for an ongoing investgation which was commenced some two years ago. No charges have been laid and none have to be laid, ad infinitum. Bail applications are being oppsed and denied.
A member of the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) Mr. Chidambaram who in the past held several senior Ministrial positions and who himself has experienced detention without charges pain some four years ago, has recently said that it is possible anyone can be detained including the PM of India.
It is a valid observation. In 2020 the then sitting PM of Israel, Benjamin Netanyuhu was charged with four serious criminal offences by the then A.G. of Israel. Those charges are still pending. Netanyuhu happens to be the current PM of Israel and the nation is pre-occupied with Gaza. It is important to note that N is not in remand without charges but happens to be released on bail and knows what charges he is facing.
So, no one is above the law. It can catch up like it did in Nuremberg Trials.
